Orbit

Privacy Policy

Effective October 1, 2026

Orbit is an app that helps you keep in touch with the people in your network. This policy explains what information Orbit handles, where it is stored, and the choices you have. In short: your network is stored on your phone, it is copied to the cloud only if you create an account, and we never sell it, share it with advertisers, or use it to track you.

Summary

1. Information stored on your phone

Everything you add to Orbit is saved in a database on your device. This includes the people you add and the details you choose to record about them (such as name, profession, company, phone number, email address, birthday, partner and children's names, ages and birthdays, interests, how you met and notes), the reach-out history you log, the job applications you track (date applied, company, job title, link, status, follow-up date, linked contacts and notes), your reminder schedules and your app settings. This information does not leave your phone unless you create an account (section 3), or to your own Google Sheet if you connect one (section 4).

2. Contacts permission

If you choose Import from my contacts, Orbit asks for permission to read your phone's address book so it can show you a list to pick from. Only the people you select are saved in Orbit, along with their name, job title, company, first phone number, first email address, birthday, notes and photo thumbnail from your address book. Orbit does not upload your address book, and it does not read it at any other time.

3. Optional account and cloud backup

You can create an account with an email address and password to back up your network and use it on more than one phone. If you do:

Your backed-up data is protected so that only your signed-in account can read or change it. It is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest.

4. Google Sheets (optional)

If you choose Connect Google Sheets, you sign in with your Google account and Orbit creates a spreadsheet called "Orbit Job Tracker" in your Google Drive, which it keeps updated with your job applications (the fields listed in section 1, with linked contacts shown by name). Orbit requests only the drive.file permission, which lets it see and edit files it created and nothing else in your Drive. The spreadsheet belongs to you and stays in your Drive if you stop syncing or delete your Orbit account; you can delete it there at any time. Orbit's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

5. Notifications

Reminders and birthday notifications are scheduled and delivered by your phone itself. Orbit does not use a push-notification server, and no notification content is sent anywhere.

6. How we use information

We use your information only to provide the app's features: showing your network, scheduling your reminders, backing up and syncing your data, updating your Google Sheet if you connected one, and sending account emails (confirming your email address, resetting your password, and letting you know when your password changes). We do not use your information for advertising, profiling or any other purpose.

7. Service providers

We use a small number of providers to run the optional account features. They process data only on our behalf and only to provide their service:

ProviderPurposeData involved

We do not sell your information or share it with anyone else, except if required by law.

8. Information about other people

The details you record in Orbit are usually about other people. That information is stored only for you, is visible only to you, and is never used to contact those people or for any other purpose. Please record only information you are comfortable keeping, and remove it if someone asks you to.

9. How long we keep information

10. Your choices and rights

11. Children

Orbit is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and at rest and access rules that limit each account to its own data. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you as required by law if a breach affects it.

13. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above, and for significant changes we will let you know in the app.
